ChicWalks.com City Shopping Experts are journalists, authors or tour, travel or fashion professionals with a demonstrated expertise in their city as it relates to shopping. They also know how to professionally write like a dream and meet deadlines as they shop ... or, shall we call it work? They live and breathe fashion and basically, are all over the place. They have a vested interest in adding new content and keeping it fresh, fun to read and up-to-date: an addictive combo that keeps site visitors coming back for more again and again!

Paris Expert: Karen Henrich

ChicWalks.com is the result of founder and CEO Karen Henrich’s experience as a Paris tour operator and her frustration in trying to find one comprehensive source for all of the city’s key shopping areas. Through her tour company, Nuit Blanche Tours, she created shopping walks for customers by conducting her own meticulous research, on foot and online, and asking the advice of fashionable French friends. ChicWalks.com was born when she brought all of that research together in one user-friendly format that allows users to shop the way they want to, on a street-by-street basis.

Henrich swears she was born with an extra shopping gene, and has quickly sussed out the fashion scene in every city she has visited or lived in including Vancouver, New York, Montreal, London, Brussels, Sydney, Hong Kong, Cairo, and of course, her beloved Paris. Henrich’s business and shopping expertise has been featured in major newspapers across Canada, in BC Business Magazine and in the National Geographic book, Best Girlfriends Getaways Worldwide (author: Marybeth Bond). Henrich is featured prominently in the April 2009 issue of MORE Magazine in an article titled ‘The French Connection.’

To say that Vancouver City Shopping Expert Joanne Blain knows her way around the city’s retail scene is a bit of an understatement. For more than 4 years, she had her pulse on fashion trends as the Vancouver Sun's Style writer, and in her 20 plus years at the newspaper, she also wrote about shopping, spas, interior design and marketing trends. As a freelance writer, Joanne now writes for publications such as the The New York Times, The International Herald Tribune, The Globe and Mail, More and Elle Canada magazines. She is also an award-winning travel writer who thinks one of the best ways to get to know a city is to shop where the locals do.

Community Coordinator: Lena Gerber

Well travelled Community Coordinator Lena Gerber is always on the look-out for the latest finds in fashion and eager to share new fashion discoveries with fellow ‘ChicWalkers’. She just finished promoting Vancouver Fashion Week through online marketing and is helping take ChicWalks to the next level through the current hottest online media sites. Lena has not only lived in several fashion capitals of the world, including Paris, Vancouver and Zurich, but also speaks fashion in German, French and English. Recently graduated from the University of British Columbia, she has decided to focus on what she loves most – sharing expert knowledge on culture, style and travel with fellow fashion lovers!

San Francisco Expert: Marybeth Bond

Marybeth planted her heart and put down roots in the city by the bay over 20 years ago. Marybeth knows her way around the small neighborhoods and eclectic shopping scene in San Francisco and researched the city’s retail meccas for a chapter in her Girlfriends Getaways books (National Geographic publisher). Marybeth has been a guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show with her book Gutsy Women, is the Adventure Editor for TravelGirl Magazine, and a travel columnist at a Marin Regional newspaper. Her work has appeared in Cosmopolitan, USA Today, The New York Times, Elle, More, Shape and Every Day with Rachael Ray. Vancouver Vintage Expert: Shawn Bourks

Shawn began vintage shopping and collecting at the age of 12, creating her own unique style that set her apart from her jeans-and-hoodie clad classmates. Specializing in mixing vintage pieces with modern day trends, Shawn plans to eventually become a stylist and designer. Kim has worked in the fashion industry between both the retail and wholesale sectors, where she managed multi-million dollar stores of a Fortune 500 retailer, to managing B2B sales and marketing of several European fashion brands for the North American market. Kim’s love for fashion started at an early age through the influence of her family-owned fashion brand, and from global fashion-buying and shopping excursions. Kim recently lived in France where she completed a Master’s degree in International Business, and loved sourcing out unique places to shop and eat in Paris! Kim enjoys keeping the happy shopping circle going between our worldwide shoppers and the local ChicWalks businesses who serve them.

Neighborhood Correspondent: Niloufar Vakili

Shopoholic Niloufar knows how to find the best deals and shopping in any city. She can sniff out bargains in New York, great home decor stores in Seattle, and amazing hidden boutiques in Paris. As a ChicWalks neighborhood expert and retail sales guru, Nilou is excited to share all of her advice about her favorite neighbors in Vancouver. Her aim is to keep fashionable ChicWalkers up to date with the latest trends while honing her fashion writing skills obtained through the Simon Fraser University communications program.

Neighborhood Correspondent: Rachel Dick

An avid shopper and traveler, it is no surprise that some of Rachel’s favorite activities involve shopping trips, and she has a love of Vancouver’s ever-changing fashion scene. Before completing her communications degree at Simon Fraser University, Rachel worked in fashion sales and merchandising. For ChicWalks, Rachel is always on the lookout for the newest store or restaurant in the downtown core and enjoys sharing her knowledge with other chic fashionistas and foodies.
